Rachael joined Fourwalls in 2023 as our Regional Photography Manager for the South East. Not only is she out and about on the road with her camera, covering a broad area from the Surrey Hills out to Kent and down to the South Coast, but she also manages the team of photographers in one of our busiest photography areas. Rachael’s expertise is often directly requested by our most exacting clients, testament to her skills behind the lens.

What do you enjoy the most about your job?

I love capturing what makes each property unique – the light, textures, architectural details and atmosphere. There’s real joy in telling a home’s story through my lens. I’m inspired every day by the creativity of my colleagues, the people I meet, and, of course, all the wonderful pets I get to photograph along the way!

How do you take your tea / coffee?

Tea with a dash of milk and two sweeteners, and I love a skinny sugar free caramel latte in the morning. 

Do you collect anything?
I’ve built a vintage camera collection by accident! It started with my grandfather’s cameras I inherited — he was also a photographer — then grew with gifts from a film enthusiast friend, and both my dad’s and my great uncle’s collection. Somehow, I’ve become a collector without really trying but they’re pretty cool.

What would be your superpower and why?
I’d love to be able to understand and speak any language in the world. It would be amazing to immerse myself in any culture and connect with people anywhere, without the limits of language barriers.

What is your definition of success?
Success, to me, is progress. Moving forward, evolving and working towards your goals and happiness. It’s about actively bettering yourself and your life, being genuinely motivated to pursue what’s best for you. That is success to me.

Any guilty pleasures?
Sometimes I like a bowl of Kellogg’s Crunchy Nut Cornflakes as a late night snack… or sometimes even for dinner.

If you won the lottery, what would you do first?

First things first… buy my dream cosy cottage in the countryside, with an add-on barn conversion that I can turn into my own home photography studio. Then I’d treat myself to some new camera gear, two dogs….and book lots of travel trips (all very selfless, I know!).

What career advice would you give your younger self?

Believe in yourself. Have confidence in what you can and will achieve and never give up on your dreams. You’re more talented and stronger than you realise.  

What training or qualifications have you needed for your role?
I studied photography at school all the way through to a master’s degree, which gave me a strong creative and technical foundation. I was then trained in property photography and videography specifically on the job, building on the knowledge from my studies with real, hands-on experience over the past six years.

Tell us your favourite random fact.

Astronauts left cameras on the moon. To reduce weight for lunar samples, the Apollo crews left about a dozen Hasselblad cameras behind. I long to go to the moon – not to go to the moon, but to retrieve the Hasselblads!
